About Bob Straub State Park

Bob Straub State Park is located on the central Oregon coast adjacent to Waldport. Spanning approximately two miles of undeveloped beach and sand dunes along the Pacific Ocean, the park provides a striking combination of coastal ecosystems including sandy beaches, coastal estuaries, and forested dunes. The park is named after Robert W. Straub, former Oregon governor and environmental advocate. It was established in 1985 as part of Oregon's efforts to preserve public coastal access and protect unique natural habitats. Visitors can explore an expansive network of trails that wind through shore pine and spruce stands, accessing scenic viewpoints, tide pools, and secluded beach areas. The park's proximity to the Alsea River estuary offers excellent opportunities for birdwatching, particularly for shorebirds and migratory species. Fishing, clamming, and tidepool exploration are popular activities, while the well-maintained trails appeal to hikers and mountain bikers alike. The park includes picnic areas and interpretive signage that highlight the coastal dunes ecology and ongoing conservation efforts. Bob Straub State Park remains a less crowded alternative to larger coastal parks, making it an ideal spot for peaceful nature immersion, wildlife observation, and enjoying Oregon's rugged coastline.
